Piotr BOSACKI will participate in the ORIENT exhibition

As a part of "Somewhere in Between" | Centre for Fine Arts BOZAR (Brussels)
20/06/18 - 19/08/18

The Somewhere In Between exhibition, in which Polish plastic artist Piotr BOSACKI is involved amongst others (as part of the Orient project), is an exhibition which reflects on the identity of eastern Europe and an attempt to bring together the accounts, experiences, relationships and encounters of a series of artists, curators and other committed individuals. Michal NOVOTNY, who is curating the exhibition, feels that what unites this imprecise region is the contradiction which lies at the very heart of the combination of pride and patriotism, mixed with a certain amount of shame, derived from the political experiences of the XXth century and the desire to catch up with western standards. He views it as the therapeutical reconstitution of surprises, victories, traumatic experiences and humiliations which the inhabitants of this part of Europe went through. The artistic practices presented reveal much about today’s artistic scenes, where artists are free to roam, far from the geographical restrictions or institutional constraints which once defined the continent.
At the Centre for Fine Arts of Brussels the Somewhere in Between exhibition encapsulate the Orient travelling exhibition that will be presented in three European cities:

  • in Riga, in the Kim? Contemporary Art Center, from 20 April until 20 May 2018;
  • in Brussels, at the Centre for Fine Arts BOZAR, from 20 June until 19 August 2018 (it is part of the ‘Somewhere in Between’ exhibition);
  • in Krakow, in the contemporary art gallery Bunkier Sztuki, from 21 September until 16 December 2018.

The Polish Institute in Brussels will invite Piotr BOSACKI to participate in the setting up and private viewing of the ORIENT exhibition at Bozar.
